The EP is a miniature concept album dealing with the stages of loss, starting with the actions that set it in motion - Wither. The titular intermezzo Red Season is the period of blissful ignorance that follows, not exactly denial, but rather ignorance of what the future holds in store. Bloom is where the narrator starts to question his actions - some event that sets in motion the wheels of doubt for real as to whether the choice made was the right one, based on the biased and no longer completely reliable memory of what was said and done. Pathos is the shock of this - rendered speechless by doubt, the narrator must now deal with the unforeseen and/or unknown consequences.
